2 injured in crash involving Clermont police officer, FHP says

Crash remains under investigation

CLERMONT, Fla. – At least two people were injured in a crash involving a Clermont police officer and another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Clermont police officials said the crash took place Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 50 and Citrus Tower Boulevard.

According to FHP officials, the officer was driving through the intersection with her lights and siren on at the same time the driver of a Toyota Prius, who had a green light at the time, was also driving through it and collided with the officer’s vehicle.

Neither the officer nor the other driver has been identified. Both were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to troopers.

Troopers said it’s unclear who went through the intersection first as the crash remains under investigation.

No other details were immediately available.
