BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives arrested a man on Tuesday who is accused of plowing into a group of children on Monday in Wilton Manors, killing two children and injuring four, according to News 6 partner WPLG-TV.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies identified the man who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord sedan as Sean Charles Greer, 27. The two children who died were identified as 5-year-old Kylie Jones and 6-year-old Andrea Fleming.

Deputies said there were also four children injured: Two 9-year-old girls, a 2-year-old boy, and a 10-year-old boy.

Witnesses said Greer was driving southbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue, between Northwest 24th and 26th streets, shortly after 2:45 p.m. Monday.

BSO investigators said Greer was behind a Broward County Transit bus that stopped to drop off a passenger. As the bus pulled out to continue southbound, Greer failed to allow the bus to merge and passed it, deputies said.

Greer then veered right and drove off the roadway and onto the sidewalk at 2417 N.W. Ninth Ave. — striking the group of children, according to investigators, then after the crash sped off and fled southbound.

The girls reportedly died on the sidewalk.

Officers with the Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale police departments, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Fire Rescue responded.

Fire Rescue took the injured children to Broward Health Medical Center.

Deputies said that evidence left at the scene — the car’s bumper front bumper had fallen off and was located at the scene of the crash — and other information led police to a damaged vehicle on Northwest Ninth Lane in Wilton Manors. It was there they found a car that had damage, which they said was consistent with the crash, and the front bumper was also missing from the vehicle.

Deputies said Greer, who was on probation for burglary in Broward County, confessed to the hit-and-run.

He faces two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries, tampering with evidence, four counts of driving without a license causing death and/or serious bodily injuries and driving with a suspended license.

Wilton Manors Police Chief Gary Blocker released a statement Wednesday morning, saying Greer’s “actions are appalling to us all.”

“Monday, December 27, 2021 is a date that sadly will forever be in the minds of all who were impacted by this tragic event,” the statement read. “We remain ready as we continue to support the victims’ families through our Victim Services Unit. I ask our community to keep our victims, their families and their friends in your thoughts and prayers.”
