Lake County high school student receives 20 scholarships, over $60k

Gia-Marie Tim plans to attend FSU before joining the Air Force

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lake County high school student was honored at her church on Sunday for winning 20 scholarships worth $67,000.

Lake Minneola High School graduate Gia-Marie Tim attends the Christ Church in Orlando, where she has been attending since she was 5 months old.

According to a news release, Tim plans to attend Florida State University where she plans to study finance and join the Air Force ROTC. Upon her college graduation, Tim will be able to join the Air Force as an officer.

Tim said she has always loved practical math application and that she wants to help others through her finance skills. Her plan is to not to take out any loans while in college.

“I am proud and it’s a bittersweet moment because my mom who passed away last year is not here to celebrate, said Tim’s mother, Suzan Hayles. “The sweetest part is, Gia graduated on the day she passed away, so it was a bittersweet day, but it’s a happy occasion.
