Widower reacts after accused Orlando shooter found incompetent to stand trial

ORLANDO, Fla. – The husband of a woman shot and killed while driving in Orlando this past January said he hopes a trial will eventually take place for the shooter.

Angila Baxter, 56, was arrested in January after she shot “randomly” at vehicles, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

During the shooting, 27-year-old Nekaybaw Collier was struck by the gunfire, and she was found in a crashed car less than a mile away from her home in the 5200 block of Powers Drive.

Baxter was later taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, second-degree murder and two counts of shooting into a vehicle. On Thursday, a judge ruled that Baxter would be incompetent to stand trial.

Kevin Moore, Collier’s husband, said that after attending the hearing, he was disappointed his wife’s accused killer would not be immediately standing trial.

“I want everyone to understand that my wife, she was loving, the best mom to our kids. She’s been a wonderful partner for me,” Moore said.

Moore also emphasized he supports 56-year-old Angila Baxter receiving mental health treatment.

Detectives in the case said Baxter was “shooting at random” when the victim was struck.

“It’s definitely harder to accept because she was a bystander. That is something that I would say weighs on me more because it’s not like she did something wrong,” Moore said.

Moore said his focus is on raising the couple’s two daughters.

“It’s been a struggle to try to show them a life without her, but all we can really do is try to keep hold of the memories,” Moore said.
