Body camera video shows takedown of suspect during fiery Deltona standoff

Dempsey Hadley, 56, faces multiple charges

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Body camera video released Thursday shows how an hourslong standoff ended in Deltona earlier this week.

The standoff happened Wednesday along Whitehorse Court, where a Volusia sheriff’s deputy was struck by a bullet when 56-year-old Dempsey Hadley opened fire while barricaded in his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Toward the end of the standoff, deputies said Hadley set fire to the vehicle and his house.

Video shows the SWAT team taking out the balcony of the burning home using a SWAT vehicle and eventually, taking Hadley into custody.

Deputies said they were trying to take him into custody after he stole cigarettes.

Hadley faces three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

The deputy injured in the standoff is expected to be OK.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office also filed a petition asking a judge to seize all of his guns.
