WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A Dundee man accused of threatening and attempting to kill a Winter Haven resident Tuesday was arrested after reportedly entering their backyard and shooting at them, according to a news release.
Leon Richardson Jr., 32, began yelling and shooting at the victim after being seen while the resident was outside walking toward a trailer, police said. This happened around 10:48 a.m., with responding officers soon finding shell casings in the backyard along Ave V NW, observing Richardson had run away, the release states. Still, the alleged shooter continued to make telephone contact with the victim, threatening him, according to police.
According to the victim, the two had a disturbance the day prior and Richardson had threatened to cause him harm ever since. Even just about an hour earlier, at 9:35 a.m. the day of the reported shooting, the victim said he received a video call from Richardson making threats to shoot and kill him, quoting the 32-year-old as saying he would shoot him in the head and didn’t “give a (expletive) about how I go out.”
Polk County deputies helped take Richardson into custody at a gas station in Dundee, from where he was booked at the county jail.
Richardson faces charges of attempted murder, armed burglary with assault, use of a firearm during a felony, written threat to injure or kill and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, police said, adding he has a felony warrant out of Hillsborough County regarding written threats to kill.
