Woman shot twice in Oviedo; suspect surrenders after SWAT standoff, police say

Shooting happened at the Town Center Apartments

OVIEDO, Fla. – A woman was injured in a shooting and the suspect is in custody after a standoff, according to Oviedo police.

Police said they responded to the Town Center Apartments located at 430 Fontana Circle just before 4 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

According to the release, police found a woman who had been shot twice.

Police said the suspect, identified by police as Damon Brooks, would not come out of the apartment where the shooting happened.

“The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office SWAT negotiation team was called out and just after 6:30 p.m., the male surrendered himself into police custody,” the release read in part.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

Brooks was taken to the Seminole County Jail, according to the release.
