DELAND, Fla. – DeLand police are investigating the deaths of two people found behind the historic Athens Theatre in downtown DeLand.

Officers responded overnight Thursday to the area near N. Florida Avenue and W. Indiana Avenue. Police are investigating the deaths near the 100 block of that intersection.

Police have not said how the two people died or whether foul play is suspected.

City officials said there is no threat to the public and no road closures are in effect. Police are asking drivers in the area to use caution due to the presence of emergency personnel.

The identities of the two people who died have not been released. No other details have been released.

The Athens Theatre is one of downtown DeLand’s most recognizable landmarks. It first opened in 1922 and regularly hosts concerts and plays. A show is still scheduled at the venue Thursday night.
