ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A wrong-way driver on State Road 528 was stopped by troopers after the Florida Highway Patrol said she drove toward oncoming traffic, fled a traffic stop and later overturned during a PIT maneuver in east Orange County.
The incident began around 7 p.m. Wednesday when a trooper responded to reports of a driver of a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander heading east in the westbound lanes of State Road 528.

According to FHP, the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren as the SUV approached his patrol car and other traffic. The driver did not stop and passed the trooper, prompting a pursuit.
Troopers said the driver continued traveling the wrong way “without regard for the safety of others.” Near mile marker 32, the SUV turned around and began heading in the correct direction. The trooper continued the pursuit and conducted a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to overturn in the westbound lanes near mile marker 30.
Troopers helped the driver, a 25-year-old Melbourne woman, out of the vehicle. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Authorities said once she is discharged, she will be taken for further evaluation under the Baker Act. Criminal charges of reckless driving and fleeing and eluding are pending.
The case remains under active investigation.
