Rally encourages African Americans in Central Florida to register to vote

Event was held at St. Mark AME church in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – A rally was held at St. Mark AME church in Orlando to encourage African Americans to register to vote.

Community leaders say the collective Black vote has the potential to shape this upcoming election.

The rally was led by a Black led nonprofit group called Equal Ground, dedicated to supporting Black political participation.

They teamed up with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, whose thousands of members are gathered in Orlando for their 71st South Atlantic Regional Conference over the next three days.

Vice President Kamala Harris is the most prominent AKA, and leader of the local region is Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell. She said”...the importance of the African American vote can not be understated...”

Florida could become more influential in the 2024 presidential election now that the Florida Supreme Court is allowing the abortion and marijuana amendments on the November ballot.

The two key issues have profound effects on the Black community and could influence them to come out in record numbers.
