8 hospitalized when airboat strikes sandbar in Osceola County

Multiple agencies responded to crash

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Eight people suffered minor injuries after an airboat crash in Osceola County.

Crews responded to 2830 Neptune Road Friday morning, a canal that links Lake Tohopekaliga and East Lake Tohopekaliga.

According to the Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS, 11 people were on board the airboat when it struck the sandbar at the end of the canal. Rescue crews were able to bring the occupants back by another boat. Details on the injuries were not given.

“All were accounted for and we got them back to the shore. Eight of them were transported to the hospital, but thankfully we didn’t have any trauma transports,” said Joshua Holder, spokesperson for Osceola County Fire Rescue EMS.

Agencies from Florida Fish and Wildlife, Osceola County Fire Rescue, and St. Cloud Police all assisted on the scene.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the crash.
