Man wanted for child sex abuse killed in crash after chase through 2 Florida counties

Chase began in Flagler County, ended in St. Johns County, deputies say

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man under investigation for child sex abuse led deputies on a two-county chase that ended in his death after a crash, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened Thursday around 5:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of U.S. 1, according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office.

St. Johns County deputies said they were notified that Flagler County deputies were pursuing the man north on U.S. 1.

The Flagler deputies pulled off the pursuit at the border with St. Johns County. St. Johns deputies spotted the man near the intersection of U.S. 1 and State Road 206, according to the post, and used spikes to blow out all four of the man’s tires.

The man’s car slammed into another vehicle and he was thrown from the crash, investigators said.

Deputies attempted first aid on the man, including CPR and the use of a defibrillator, but they were not ultimately able to save his life.

Investigators have not released details of the investigation that led to the chase or the identity of the man.
