An officer responded around 11:40 a.m. to the 900 block of Friday Road after a 911 caller reported a woman had come to them saying her boyfriend was “psychotic,” an affidavit states.
At the scene, the caller directed the officer’s attention to Gomez, stating, “He did this to him.” Gomez was being restrained on the ground when the officer arrived, with the victim — identified as Andre Bishram, 57 — sitting nearby with visible lacerations to his face, the affidavit states.
Bishram was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead within an hour of the first officer’s arrival, according to the affidavit.
Witnesses told investigators that Gomez had asked Bishram for water and then began stabbing Bishram with a knife once he returned with some, the affidavit states. The person whom investigators described as Gomez’s girlfriend said that they had been together for several years, adding Bishram had been staying with them for about three days leading up to the attack, according to the affidavit.
When Gomez had allegedly begun stabbing Bishram, Gomez’ girlfriend told investigators that she tried to take the knife away from him, the affidavit states. Gomez at one point dropped the knife before retrieving a screwdriver that he used to continue attacking Bishram, according to the affidavit.
The girlfriend ran to the unit next to hers for help — allegedly telling a neighbor, “He’s killing him” — and returned to see Gomez holding a tire iron that she said he used to strike Bishram in the head, the affidavit states.
The alleged girlfriend told investigators that Gomez had been suffering episodes of psychosis and that he “believed that everyone is out to hurt him, kill him,” adding he hadn’t slept the night prior, according to the affidavit.
Gomez was being held on no bond at the time of this report.
