‘Beef over a girl’ leads to death in Osceola County, sheriff says

Orvill Osorio-Ortiz, 42, faces charge of murder

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A “beef over a girl” left one man dead following a shooting over the weekend, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said they responded to reports of a shooting involving a vehicle at 5035 Kellchris Lane in St. Cloud on Sunday.

Per the release, deputies found a 19-year-old in the vehicle — identified as Nekko Herrera — though he was declared dead shortly afterward after being riddled with bullets.

But on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office managed to catch the suspect, 42-year-old Orvill Osorio-Ortiz, the release states.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Marcos Lopez provided more details about what exactly happened leading up to the shooting.

“This incident all began with a group of young adults exchanging texts about an argument over a girl,” Lopez explained. “I can’t make this stuff up; arguing over a girl ends in murder."

As Lopez told it, the dispute led to back-and-forth insults between the young men, who agreed to meet up to “take care of the beef.”

But Osorio-Ortiz knew some of the young men involved, and he planned an ambush, firing upon the five victims as they drove past the meeting spot, Lopez said.
