SWAT raid at Orange County drug house leaves man dead, sheriff says

Deputy-involved shooting happened on Lejune Drive

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A SWAT raid at a drug house in Orange County resulted in a deputy-involved shooting, leaving one man dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a news release, deputies said that the SWAT team served a search warrant around 2:20 p.m at a home at 5614 Lejune Drive.

“A couple of weeks ago, deputies were called to this home for a domestic violence incident,” the release reads. “While conducting that investigation, they found a trafficking amount of fentanyl and two loaded guns — one of which was stolen."

Deputies said they’d confiscated the drugs and firearms, but Friday’s warrant was aimed at letting deputies search the home further for any more drugs, guns, cash and cellphones.

But as the SWAT team entered and tried to clear the area of danger, they ran into a man in a bedroom, who reached behind a door where a rifle was located, deputies added.

Per investigators, a deputy then fired on the man, who was struck and later taken to the hospital.

The man, later identified by sheriff’s officials as Tyrone Bartley, 32, died a short time later, officials said.

“These types of warrants are very high risk for our deputies, and this case illustrates that,” the release continues. “That’s why the SWAT team conducts these searches.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
