Construction on track to finish by September 2027

ORLANDO, Fla. – A $25-30 million project to improve the space under Interstate 4 in downtown Orlando is one step closer to becoming reality.

The city of Orlando this week approved a contract to help advance “The Canopy,” a “vibrant, inclusive and sustainable urban oasis” located across South Hughey Avenue from the federal courthouse and stretching beneath I-4 from West Church Street to West Washington Avenue, not far from the Kia Center.

In a Facebook post on Thursday from Downtown Orlando, officials said, “The Canopy will be more than just a pretty place to walk through; it will feature creative public art, shaded areas, and vibrant gathering spots where residents and visitors can relax, connect, and enjoy the city.”

The city last year released renderings of the project.

Construction is slated to finish by the end of August 2027, according to the Facebook post.
