Erica Muzzy had been a deputy since 2021, officials say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – An off duty deputy has resigned after being arrested for driving a motorcycle on Interstate 4 with a fake tag on Saturday evening, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release, Erica Muzzy was stopped on westbound I-4 near Deltona around 11:07 p.m for riding a motorcycle with a tag that was flipped up and not visible.

Deputies said when the tag was flipped down, it read “CHASEM3.”

According to the release, before the traffic stop Muzzy was involved in an earlier incident in Deltona.

Deputies said around 8:51 p.m., they spotted a motorcyclist at the WaWa located at 3400 Howland Boulevard who fled from an attempted traffic stop earlier in the evening.

While being detained, that rider called out to Muzzy, who was with his group of riders, and who became argumentative with the deputy conducting the investigation.

The unnamed motorcyclist was arrested and faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with a bond of $2,500.

Deputies said after the unnamed motorcyclist’s arrest, Muzzy left the Wawa riding her motorcycle with a “fictitious tag” rather than having it towed or getting a ride home.

After being pulled over on I-4, Muzzy was arrested and faces charges of possession of a counterfeit license plate. She was transported to the Volusia County jail with a $2,500 bond.

According to the release, additional charges are possible for the other riders involved in the Wawa incident who also fled from deputies.

“In addition to last night’s incident and arrest, the Sheriff’s Office has become aware of a social media account associated with Muzzy displaying reckless stunt riding on public roads. The Sheriff’s Office is also investigating that conduct as part of an internal affairs investigation,” the release read in part.

Muzzy had been a deputy since 2021 and was most recently assigned to District 2 in the DeLand/northwest Volusia area, according to the sheriff’s office.
