DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 28-year-old DeLand man arrested on Tuesday by Volusia County deputies is accused of video voyeurism and possession of child pornography, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives began investigating David Van Moorsel starting June 16 following a report from his ex-girlfriend, who said Van Moorsel had allegedly recorded their female roommate in compromising situations over the course of two years, officials said.
The ex-girlfriend allegedly discovered Van Moorsel was distributing nude images and videos of the roommate to others online, the sheriff’s office said, adding she allegedly found hidden cameras in a bathroom and bedroom.
Authorities said Van Moorsel’s cell phone allegedly contained numerous videos of the roommate as well as online communications about sharing and trading the content.
Numerous videos of women working out at Gold’s Gym in Daytona Beach — where Van Moorsel worked as a personal trainer — were also found on his phone, deputies said. However, because the videos were taken in public areas of the gym, officials said they did not violate Florida law.
Von Moorsel faces 40 charges of digital voyeurism, 40 charges of unlawful use of a two-way communications device, and 30 charges of possession of child porn, which the sheriff’s office said was discovered during the investigation, records show.
Van Moosel was booked into the Volusia County Jail without bond, investigators said.
