VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Attorneys for two men convicted in the so-called Xbox murders were in court Friday for a last chance to potentially influence a judge before they could be sentenced to death.
At a Spencer hearing, the defense for Troy Victorino and Jerone Hunter presented additional evidence before a sentence is imposed.
An exact date for sentencing was not announced.
In May, a jury recommended the death penalty for the two men convicted in the deadliest mass murder in Volusia County’s history.
Victorino and Hunter were convicted of breaking into a Deltona home and beating six people to death with baseball bats and stabbing them in a Deltona home in 2004 in a case that drew national attention.

Victorino had been squatting in one of the victim’s houses, got kicked out, but left items behind that he was upset he had not gotten back, including an Xbox.
Both men were originally sentenced to death in 2006, but that was overturned in 2017 when the Florida Supreme Court ruled a jury must be unanimous when it recommends the death penalty.
Since then, there have been changes in state law that have lowered the threshold to 8-4 for a jury to recommend death.

In May, Victorino and Hunter’s teams defended them separately, but both pushed for life in prison.
Hunter’s team said he was intimidated by Victorino into joining.
Victorino’s team argued that he should be spared death due to a history of mental health issues.
Friday’s hearing begins at 10 a.m.
