‘I thought you were racing me:’ Dash camera video shows driver pulled over for going 120mph

Logan Mills faces charge of dangerous excessive speeding

LAKE MARY, Fla. – Dash camera video obtained by News 6 from the Florida Highway Patrol shows the moment a driver tells the trooper who pulled him over, “I thought you were racing me.”

On July 23, around 2:20 a.m., records show a driver in a blue Honda Civic was stopped by FHP on I-4 near mile marker 98 in Lake Mary. According to an arrest report that identifies that driver as Logan Mills, a trooper saw the car get to a top speed of 120 mph on the highway.

Video of the traffic stop shows the trooper walking up to the passenger side of the vehicle after the driver pulls over and stops on the shoulder. The trooper can be heard asking for the driver’s license and registration.

Shortly after, the driver says, “I’m going to be real with you. I really thought, like, this is...it’s not, uh, like, uh, an excuse or anything. I thought you were racing me.”

“Racing you? What? You passed me,” the trooper replies.

The trooper almost immediately walks to the driver’s side door and tells the man to “step outside the car.” He then walks the driver to his patrol vehicle and places him in handcuffs.

“You’re under arrest,” the trooper says. In the video, you hear the driver troopers identified as Mills reply, “Like, for real, for real?”

After he is heard asking about his speed, the trooper says, “120. You gonna tell me that I’m lying to you now? How fast do you think you were doing?”

The driver answers back, “I thought I was doing 90.”

In the arrest report, the trooper states that 90 mph is still 25 mph over the speed limit.

Mills is now facing a charge of “dangerous excessive speed” for allegedly going 50+ mph over the speed limit. Online court records show he has pleaded not guilty.
