Person walking on I-4 struck and killed by car near DeLand, troopers say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A person died early Wednesday after being struck by a car along Interstate 4 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Shortly after midnight, troopers responded to I-4 in the area of mile marker 121 near DeLand. They determined that a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on the inside lane struck someone who was walking on the roadway. Troopers said that the left front side of the Toyota collided with the person, who was wearing dark clothing. Investigators said they were still working to identify the pedestrian and figure out why that person was walking along I-4.

In an effort to protect Florida wildlife, the Florida Department of Transportation is building a new underpass in Polk County. DOT and the Florida Wildlife Corridor are working together to continue watching out for bears, deer, panthers and many other animals that call Florida home. They are building a wildlife underpass that will reconnect the Hilochee Wildlife Management Area, which is part of the 18-million-acre Florida Wildlife Corridor. The underpass will have 10-foot-high fencing that will guide the wildlife toward the underpass and away from the interstate.”Similar wildlife underpasses were built a few years back between Orlando and Daytona Beach during the I-4 reconstruction.
