Judge denies bond for Alisa Montalvo in deadly I-4 crash case

Trooper testifies repairs were made days after DeBary chain-reaction wreck as defense points to earlier wrongful arrest

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – After a high-profile investigation that included the arrest of the wrong person, the woman now accused of causing a deadly I-4 crash, Alisa Montalvo, will stay behind bars until her trial.

A judge denied her bond during a hearing in Volusia County Friday afternoon. A judge said Montalvo is a risk to the public and ruled the state met the legal standard to hold her without bond ahead of trial.

Investigators said Montalvo caused the October 2025 chain-reaction crash on I-4 near DeBary that killed three people, seriously injured another driver and then left the scene. The hearing comes a week after the release of Lindsay Isaacs. The Florida Highway Patrol initially arrested Isaacs, then later said troopers had taken the wrong person into custody.

Montalvo’s defense noted the earlier suspect in the case was granted bond while facing the same charges. An FHP trooper testified that Montalvo had her vehicle repaired three days after the crash and never reported the damage to her insurance company.

The trooper said investigators later learned about the repairs and located surveillance video showing someone fixing the vehicle at a residence.

According to the trooper, Montalvo told the mechanic she hit a guardrail and did not mention the crash.
