School-bus crash on I-4 eastbound in Osceola County (FDOT)

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A couple lanes of eastbound Interstate 4 were temporarily closed Wednesday morning in Osceola County after a school bus rear-ended an SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7:39 a.m. in the area of mile marker 61, not far south of World Drive, troopers said.

An Osceola School District bus was involved in the crash while transporting 29 Island Village Elementary students, a district spokesperson told News 6 in a statement

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the school bus was in the outside eastbound lane as a 2021 Chevy Blazer in front of the bus was slowing down for traffic ahead. The driver of the school bus failed to stop for the Chevy and rear-ended it as a result, further causing the Blazer to strike a 2022 General Motors GM515 truck that it was traveling behind, the report states.

The 44-year-old man driving the Chevy and four of his passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said. Neither the 82-year-old man who was driving the bus nor the 33-year-old man driving the GM were injured and both of them remained at the scene, troopers said.

None of the children from the bus were hospitalized and the roadblock has since been cleared, troopers said. All of the students eventually made it to the school, according to the district.

FHP is still investigating.
