ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to identify a woman nicknamed “Miss Wekiva” in a 1993 cold case.
The sheriff’s office on Tuesday posted on social media about the case from April 1993.
The woman’s remains were found on April 22, 1993, in the woods near Piedmont Wekiwa Road and North Orange Blossom Trail. Deputies said her body was estimated to have been there about three to six weeks and that she had been fatally shot.
In March, the sheriff’s office was able to use a CT scan of her skull to create a facial reconstruction of what she may have looked like.
The woman was 5 feet, 2 inches tall and a Black Hispanic, possibly of Dominican descent. She was around 115 pounds and estimated to be about 19-23 years old.
Deputies said it is believed she had ties to New York.
“After 32 years, detectives have been unable to identify this woman and her murder remains unsolved‚” the sheriff’s office said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 407-836-4357 or Crimeline at 407-423-8477.
“Your tip could be the key to finally solving this heartbreaking mystery. Thank you for helping bring closure to Miss Wekiva and her loved ones,” the post reads.
