Missing baby of dead Florida couple found alive over 40 years later, authorities say
An infant who was declared missing in 1981 after her parents, a Florida couple, were discovered dead in a wooded Texas area was found more than 40 years later by cold case investigators, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Thursday.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is increasing the rewards in two major cold cases that happened years ago this month. “I do believe there’s a lot of people walking around who know who killed my son,” said Walker’s mother, Alfreda Walker Tarver. “Originally, when deputies responded they believed it was a car accident and the next day in the autopsy they found out he had been shot and killed,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. The other case is the 26-year-old cold case of the murder of 15-year-old Laralee Spear. AdThey’re just two of dozens of cold cases the office still has but the sheriff is bringing light to theirs as the anniversary of their deaths comes this month.
‘Where is Jennifer Kesse?’ CBS show investigates Orlando woman’s mysterious disappearance
ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s been nearly 15 years since Jennifer Kesse vanished from her Orlando condominium. Kesse’s parents sued the Orlando Police Department for a copy of their daughter’s case file. The Kesses have hired a private investigator and there are now some new theories about what may have happened to her. “48 Hours” correspondent Peter Van Sant recently spoke to Drew and Joyce Kesse, Jennifer’s parents, about where the case stands right now. The private investigator believes Kesse had left her condo and was locking the door when she was grabbed by the workers.
Cold case: Arrest made in woman’s 1997 strangulation death
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Decades after the fact, Orange County deputies believe they’ve figured out who strangled a woman who was found dead inside an apartment on April 16, 1997. Deputies said they were called to a possible burglary at a residence on Lee Street and found 42-year-old Donna Byrd dead from strangulation. In September, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s newly formed Cold Case Unit submitted the fingerprints for review and got a match for 51-year-old Jimmy Lee Mahone, according to a news release. Deputies in Orange County contacted officials at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia after they received information that Mahon could be in that area then on Tuesday, he was arrested in Macon on a murder charge, records show. He’s being held in Macon until he can be extradited back to Florida.
DNA, fingerprints, gun and bizarre Facebook tirade lead to Florida man suspected of sex assault 20 years ago
TAMPA, Fla. – DNA, fingerprints, a silver gun and a bizarre Facebook tirade led them to a man suspected of sexually attacking a woman nearly 20 years ago, Tampa police said. The newspaper reported Rivers told investigators he'd had the gun for about two years. But the woman told them about a strange Facebook message she received in 2014. Police obtained a search warrant that allowed them to take a DNA sample from Rivers, now 39, on July 2. But the DNA lab report that came back Sept. 3 showed Rivers’ DNA matched the sample taken after the attack, and he was arrested.
Family of woman killed after jumping from car trunk seek answers in 16-year-old unsolved case
According to officials, Susan Perkins sustained life-threatening injuries on Aug. 31, 2004 after jumping from the trunk of a car. On August 31, 2004, around 8:30 p.m. Susan Perkins and a friend were tinting windows in a salon on Maitland Avenue, officials said. A masked Black male entered the salon, officials explained. He was armed with an unknown type of rifle.According to investigators, the man ordered Perkins and her friend into Susans red Ford Focus and made them drive to the Washington Mutual Bank. The victims leaped from the trunk but Susan struck her head on the pavement in her brave attempt to escape, investigators said.
