WINTER PARK, Fla. – Winter Park officials will discuss the future of West Fairbanks Avenue between I-4 and 17-92, an area known for heavy traffic congestion.
During a work session Thursday, the city aims to guide development and prepare infrastructure to handle increased traffic.
Winter Park city staff will update the city commission on the corridor’s current state and future outlook.
They describe the area as “largely untapped by significant development” compared to other parts of Winter Park that are already built out and they anticipate interest in redeveloping the corridor will grow.

Becky Kincaid, owner of Creative Jane Art Studio, has operated on West Fairbanks Avenue for six years and has witnessed the worsening of traffic over time.
“There are times that from the light at 17-92, it’ll be backed up all the way to here. So, this is Clay Avenue. So, it’s quite a big backup,” Kincaid said.
The city will review feedback from stakeholders and discuss trends and goals for the area during the work session.
Kincaid hopes the city prioritizes improving traffic flow before anything else.
“There’s no direct way to turn left onto our street, so there are a lot of issues there. We regularly see fender benders at this light,” she said.
News 6 reached out to Winter Park for comment. The city management team said in a statement, “There has been significant development in other areas of the City of Winter Park and there may be opportunities along the West Fairbanks Avenue from I-4 to US Hwy 17-92. This work shop will be for the City Commission to discuss this corridor and let staff know if there are potential desired goals for future redevelopment.”
The work session is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Winter Park City Hall.
