SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – The city of Satellite Beach on Tuesday announced the retirement of Chief of Police Jeff Pearson.
Effective Oct. 31, Pearson’s retirement will culminate his 38 years of service, the last 14 as police chief, the city said in a statement on social media.
Pearson will be on leave until his retirement date to allow for a smooth transition, the statement reads.
“(He) has made lasting contributions to the department and the community,” the city said. “(...) The City of Satellite Beach extends its sincere gratitude for his many years of service and congratulates him on his retirement!”
Upon asking the police department, News 6 was told to seek further assistance from Interim Police Chief Brad Hodge.
A statement shared Thursday, Oct.9, by Satellite Beach City Manager Brittany Retherford addresses what are termed “concerns” recently brought to the city regarding the police department’s “organizational climate” and Pearson’s “professional and personal commitments outside of work.”
Following discussions with Chief Pearson about the importance of his role and the need for consistent leadership within the Police Department, both parties mutially agreed that it could be in the best interest of the department and the community for him to move forward with retirement.
The City appreciated Chief Pearson’s many years of service and his contributions to the department and community during his tenure. As we move forward, we remain focused on ensuring strong and consistent leadership within the Police Department as we continue to proudly serve the City of Satellite Beach.
