VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County is under a flood watch until Sunday morning as heavy rain rolls into the area, but parts of Port Orange and Daytona Beach have already seen flooding.
Lorri Wussick, who lives in Port Orange, says flooding along Halifax Road has become a regular issue.
“The street becomes like a mini river. Down that way, it’s probably over the street,” Wussick explained. She added, “We have a sea wall to keep it down a little bit, but I’m just saying it’s gonna be a river.”
In Daytona Beach, near North Beach Street, Fishin’ Hole owner Mike Corle says rainwater flooded the streets and got inside his store Thursday.

“It comes up to the sewage. It kind of just overflows, and the high tide mixes with all the rain we’ve been having as well. It just overflows and fills up this whole block,” Corle said.
With more heavy rainfall on the way, Corle says preparation is his only option. “The only thing I can do is sandbag and hope for the best.”
Volusia County Emergency Management Director Clint Mecham says the area could see conditions similar to last weekend.
“It is pretty similar to what we saw last weekend. We could see 3 inches of rain and some spots get up to 5 inches of rain,” Mecham said.

He noted crews are already clearing drains, canals, and ditches while working with state and local partners to monitor conditions. “Hopefully it is not all gonna come in an hour or 30 minutes and instead spread out over a few days. The systems are designed to take that kind of stress.”
Officials advise residents that the safest thing to do is to stay inside. But if you must drive down a flooded street, drive slowly to avoid sending water into homes or businesses.
