PORT St. JOHN, Fla. – A suspicious person was taken into custody Thursday morning after an incident outside Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School in Port St. John, according to the school district and sheriff’s office.
The school was placed on lockdown while deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office searched for the suspect, soon identified as 48-year-old Marvin Guth.
Deputies responded around 9 a.m. to the school, where Guth had left his vehicle parked just outside of the east gate, according to a probable cause affidavit. Guth was found and arrested within an hour at his residence in the nearby 6600 block of Addie Avenue, the affidavit states. Enterprise Elementary School was also placed on a “Shelter in Place” during the incident Thursday.
Port St. John Community Correspondent James Sparvero talked to parents, who all of a sudden came to the school to take their children home early.
“It’s crazy times we live in, you know?” Rick Fleckenstein said.
Guth was arrested to face a charge of trespassing on school grounds, records show. He also faces a charge of failure to appear and is being held on no bond, having missed a hearing Thursday morning in an open case for allegedly threatening to kill others earlier this year, according to the sheriff’s office.
An affidavit for an arrest warrant from March states Guth’s neighbor had called deputies in February to report he was acting erratic and aggressive toward their family. Guth was taken into custody under a Baker Act by responding deputies whom he allegedly threatened as they approached him, according to the affidavit.
The document goes on to describe an incident in March — some 15 days after the February incident — during which Guth was allegedly found trespassing on school grounds at Enterprise Elementary, where he had already been trespassed in October 2023.
After allegedly threatening to kill the deputies who took him away, Guth then saw some children walking by and threatened to “kill them all,” as well as burn down the school, the affidavit states.
“Deputies documenting the arrest of Guth for Trespassing on School Ground, noted Guth made threats to harm children during the prior incident on February 25th, 2025, and was later found attempting to enter Enterprise Elementary School, which is less than a half mile (0.4 miles) from Guth residence on Addie Road,” the affidavit states (sic).
Michele Dabney said her daughter sent her a picture of Guth’s mugshot from his March arrest.
“Me and my coworkers were all talking about it,” she said. “We’re surprised that he’s out and about and he’s able to go and do this.”
Nikki Nafus said Guth should stay in jail this time.
“He probably just needs some help and not just to be out on the street waiting for his trial,” the parent said. “Yeah, scary times, but we’re safe now.”
The sheriff’s office said rumors that began circulating on Facebook about Guth driving through a gate at the school were not true.
