AVALON PARK, Fla. – The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says it’s conducting a criminal investigation in Avalon Park involving a mail-theft ring.

“We are currently conducting a criminal investigation in your area involving a mail theft ring. Due to the nature of the crime, it is difficult to determine exactly what mail pieces corresponding to you have been taken,” the USPIS Miami Division said in a letter to Avalon Park residents. “It is possible recovered mail was returned to you and/or mail was destroyed as a result of the (perpetrators’) actions.”

In the letter, the USPIS recommended readers review their financial accounts and take other such precautions as checking their credit reports.

“Due to Federal Identity Theft Legislation, you may order one free online credit report per year at www.annualcreditreport.com,“ the letter continues. ”(...) If you find you are a victim of Identity Theft, you may also find additional resources and file a complaint through the Federal Trade Commission’s website at www.ftc.gov."

The USPIS asks that anyone living in Avalon Park who may have information or video of the theft report it to them by calling 877-876-2455 and saying “Theft.”
