AVALON PARK, Fla. — Central Florida is getting a new restaurant that puts a gourmet twist on classic foods and also supports local animal shelters. In August, Dusty Dogz will be the newest vendor serving up yummy treats in the Marketplace at Avalon Park. Originating in Michigan, Dusty Dogz offers gourmet options, from hot dogs with unique toppings to smash burgers with a twist. According to a news release, Dusty Dogs has made it its mission to not only feed the community but its canine companions as well with portions of every purchase going directly to a local animal shelter or rescue center. Unlike city-run playgrounds, only 10 children will be allowed on the playground at a time.
Avalon Park woman saves neighbor who was choking on steak
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Avalon Park gym teacher was home alone and choking on a steak when he made the desperate decision to sprint to his neighbor’s house. Billy Bass, who lives alone, said he only had about 30 seconds to get to his longtime friend, Karen Aranda. When she opened the door, I made the choking signal,” Bass said. Aranda opened the door to her struggling friend. As for Bass, he gave Aranda a 6-pack of beer.

Armed woman who was killed in Avalon Park deputy-involved shooting identified
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. A woman who was fatally shot by deputies in Avalon Park after she pointed a gun at them has been identified, according to the Orange County Sheriffs Office. Officials identified the suspect as 42-year-old Tracy Drowne while the deputies who fired their weapons were identified as Nathan Henley and Joseph ONeil. Both patrol deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates, which is standard procedure. Man shot, killed in apartment near Avalon Park
AVALON PARK, Fla. - A man was shot and killed Monday in an apartment near Avalon Park, according to sheriff's officials. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called around 7:45 p.m. to the Wisper Palms apartments off Alafaya Trail. Deputies said the suspect was at the scene and was detained. The victim who was shot was taken to a hospital and died, according to the Sheriff's Office. No other details, including the motive or the names of the suspect and victim, have been released.
Rising waters swamp roads in Avalon Park
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Rising waters swamped roads in Avalon Park. One viewer said she saw flooding in the area of Peppervine and Lake Live Oak drives. Orange County Public Works said the area experienced more than two inches of rain in about five hours. "High amount of rain in a short duration can also overburden the system temporarily and cause flooding," Overstreet said. Public Works officials said they have reviewed the drainage systems and found no blocked pipes.
