FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida inmate found guilty of stealing from a Palm Coast home while on a state prison work crew has been given an eight-year sentence, records show.

Jay Working, 34, was arrested in April with just 14 days left of his original sentence at Putnam Correctional Institution, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

Working was part of an inmate crew conducting maintenance on a city-maintained drainage swale on April 22 when he appeared on surveillance video entering a Palm Coast resident’s patio, a news release states.

The resident reported the incident after noticing a pack of cigarettes and a lighter were missing, according to the release.

Working pleaded no contest on Dec. 3 to charts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and petit theft. The eight-year sentence he was given on Monday will respect 217 days credit for time served, records show.
