ORLANDO, Fla. – The city of Orlando is asking for your suggestions to make housing more affordable.

The city has released a survey on its website. You do not need to be a current resident of Orlando to fill it out. The survey is due Dec. 31.

The city said feedback from its 2020 Housing and Community Needs survey helped drive plans for more affordable housing communities, like Fairlawn Village, which opened along Mercy Drive in 2023.

The complex has 116 units for people making at or less than 60% of the Area Median Income, along with 20 units for housing for homeless people, domestic violence survivors, people with a disability, or young people aging out of foster care.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the median income in the Orlando area is $98,100. A family of four making “Very Low Income” has a household income of around $52,700.

Affordable housing units are not the only thing the city is looking at. The current survey asks how people feel about programs that fix homes for homeowners, provide financial help in buying a home, provide rental help, or increase the number of affordable homes for sale, for instance.

The survey also asks about the types of homes that are most urgently needed in the city, and also what other services or programs are needed in the city, everything from better street lighting to childcare services.

The results of the survey will inform the city’s 2026-2030 Consolidated Plan for the Housing and Community Development Department.

To learn more about how the plan would be funded, and to take the survey, head to the City of Orlando’s website.
