Hoax causes Code Red at Lake Brantley High School, officials say

Forest City Elementary also got a Code Red

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Lake Brantley High School and nearby Forest City Elementary were put on a Code Red on Thursday because of a tip about a possible threat, according to Seminole County Public Schools.

The tip had been called in and prompted the Code Red out of an abundance of caution, the school district said in a statement.

Dismissal was expected to be delayed as Altamonte Springs police swept the campus, but both the police department and school district issued updates around 3 p.m. calling the tip a “hoax” and promising an investigation.

“Law Enforcement has confirmed that this call was a hoax, and the FBI and law enforcement will be working to identify the caller,“ the school district said in a statement, adding some officers would stick around to help with traffic congestion.

There was no threat to either Lake Brantley High School or Forest City Elementary, the district said. Both schools were said to be in the process of dismissal at the time of this writing.
