ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Two 14-year-old students were hit by a vehicle Friday morning, in front of Lake Brantley High School. The incident happened at around 7 a.m. on Sand Lake Road, right before classes began. The driver of the vehicle had a green light when they hit the two females, who were not using a crosswalk, according to Altamonte Springs police. The students were transported to the hospital. The UCF Football team has landed a commitment from Lake Brantley High School twins, Michael and Andrew Harris. The 6’1 linebacker twins originally grew up playing soccer in Kingston Jamaica, have called Central Florida home after playing American football for the first time for Lake Brantley High School in 2020. AdvertisementThe twins only took offers from schools that were interested in having both Harris brothers as a package deal. The Harris brothers made their commitment official just down the road from Lake Brantley High School at the indoor trampoline center, Rebounderz in Apopka, FL. With the addition of the Harris twins, the Knights now have a total of six high school commitments with four of those commitments coming from sunshine state.

Seminole County school officials are working to contact trace students at Lake Mary High School after reports of multiple positive cases. According to officials, seven people at Lake Mary High School tested positive for COVID-19. Other high schools also saw high quarantine numbers last week. Two cases at Hagerty High School led to 112 students in quarantine and 135 students were asked to quarantine at Lake Brantley High School. According to officials, some students were involved in extracurriculars which is why the number of students needing to self quarantine is higher than usual.
Heres how officials are using COVID-19 contact tracing in schools
The definition of direct contact would be within 6 feet of each other within 15 minutes or longer, Blasewitz added. Thats where Blasewitz turns to seating charts required by every teacher for every class period. We are full steam ahead with the seating charts, its arguably the most important part of contact tracing, he said. Then we dont have to disrupt that right to an education.This is an approach Blasewitz said many schools are utilizing to contact trace. He said the districts transportation office has also required seating charts on buses to help with contact tracing.
Coronavirus: 179 people asked to quarantine since start of Seminole County school year
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. The number of people Seminole County Public Schools has asked to quarantine this academic year stands at 179 Wednesday, up from 158 on Tuesday. Of the new possible COVID-19 exposures, 13 were at Bear Lake Elementary School, officials said. The district on Wednesday also upped the number of individuals in quarantine at Lake Brantley High School from 51 to 70. Michael Lawrence, communications officer for Seminole County Public Schools, said the confirmed cases include both teachers and students. The number of cases and quarantines associated with Seminole County schools is expected to fluctuate daily.
Seminole County schools asks more than 100 people to quarantine after exposure to COVID-19
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. Seminole County Public Schools has asked 102 people to quarantine after coming in contact with a student who tested positive for COVID-19, the district said Tuesday. Number of people exposed to COVID-19 at Seminole County schools:Hagerty High School: 11Lake Brantley High School: 18Lawton Elementary School: 21Lyman High School: 26Teague Middle School: 11Wilson Elementary School: 15These reports are in addition to the 51 people across the district asked to self-quarantine last week. Lake Mary Elementary and Lake Brantley High reported the presence of COVID-19 on campus last week. As of Tuesday, Lake Brantley High School has 51 people self-quarantining. The district says by its count, there are 153 people in precautionary quarantine since school started on Aug. 17.
Seminole County seniors attend small graduation ceremonies
Its been crazy, we had a lot of stops and goes when it came to this graduation. Seniors were divided into groups of ten in order to practice social distancing while family members watched from a distance. For Jan Benjamin, he said this was the perfect way to say goodbye and hello to new beginnings. I think it's safe to say we really deserved this," Benjamin said. Seminole County ramps up COVID-19 testing as cases rise in Central Florida
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. Hundreds of vehicles lined up outside Lake Brantley High School as Seminole County's latest pop-up coronavirus testing site reached capacity early Wednesday. The site was one of seven locations that have opened in an attempt to meet testing demands throughout the community. "We had a friend who's whole house tested positive that we hang out with, so we're going to make sure that we're not (positive)," she said. Seminole County reported its highest single-day number of cases this week and a daily positive rate between 10.3 and 18.6 percent. Threat made to Lake Brantley High before school year begins
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Before students returned to school Monday, officials sent a message to parents of one Seminole County school alerting them of a threat of violence. Officials from Lake Brantley High School informed parents Sunday of a threat made by a former student on social media. Lake Brantley High School Principal Brian Blasewitz said police were contacted immediately. "There is no current credible threat to Lake Brantley," Blasewitz said. "The safety and security of our Lake Brantley family is of utmost importance," Blasewitz said.
New code red drill protocol announced after Lake Brantley High incident
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – After an unannounced code red drill at Lake Brantley High School caused panic among students, Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma announced a new protocol going forward. Pre-planned code red drills will also still take place. The bottom line is this – we are no longer going to do these unannounced Code Red drills in that manner anymore," Lemma wrote in a news release. On Thursday, an unannounced code red drill was held at Lake Brantley High School. "I want to highlight the positive working relationship that the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office has with the Seminole County Public Schools.
