Sumter County school district to vote on new rules for e-bikes

Changes would ban students from using gas-powered portion of e-bikes or scooters on campus

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – The Sumter County school board on Tuesday is expected to vote on new rules for e-bikes.

The changes would formally ban students from using the gas-powered portion of their e-bikes or scooters while on campus.

The proposal would also mandate anyone under 16 to wear helmets.

Students would also have to dismount and walk their device to storage areas before class.

Students who refuse could face disciplinary action.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m.
