Police use Taser on man accused of trying to take cars at Daytona Beach dealership

Jayden Brown, 18, arrested Jan. 14

DAYTONA, BEACH, Fla. – New video from the Daytona Beach Police Department shows the arrest of a man accused of trying to steal cars at a dealership earlier this month.

Jayden Brown, 18, of Palm Coast, was arrested Jan, 14 at a dealership on Tomoka Farms Road, the police department said on social media.

Body-worn camera video shows an officer using a Taser on Brown as the teen opens the door of a pickup truck that the officer had just gotten out of. After handcuffing the man, the remainder of the video shows Brown speaking with and, at times, appearing to taunt the officers, who can otherwise be seen discussing the situation among themselves.

“The one that’s in the bay there, he actually got in and tried to start, but he couldn’t figure out how to start it and go out. There was a car that was pulling in, a BMW just like the one that’s in there, and he ran up to it as it’s pulling in, he’s pulling on the door handle and they drove off,” one of the officers says. “There were people from Mercedes chasing him, BMW chasing him.”

At Brown’s first appearance in court on Jan. 15, a judge found probable cause for charges of burglary of an occupied structure, criminal mischief of less than $200, and three counts of attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle, records show. He has since been released on recognizance and is due back in court in February for arraignment.
