BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A corrections deputy for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is accused of smuggling contraband, including an overdose medication and other drugs, into the jail.

The sheriff’s office arrested Chloe Deaton, 23, on Saturday.

According to an arrest report, the sheriff’s office got a tip that Deaton was providing the contraband to inmates at the jail on Camp Road in Cocoa.

Detectives believe Deaton got the drugs from an intermediary, who provided Deaton with a package of Suboxone and a small amount of Methamphetamine on Jan. 18.

Authorities say Deaton was supposed to meet her source on Saturday to get another package of Suboxone with a marijuana/THC vape pen at a Target in Melbourne. That’s when law enforcement confronted Deaton.

In a post-Miranda interview, Deaton said she delivered the Suboxone from the Jan. 18 package by leaving it in a garbage can for an inmate, identified as Charles McClellan, to find and distribute or use.

According to detectives, Deaton said she was supposed to meet the intermediary, but did not know the person would be bringing additional contraband and drugs.

Deaton also denied knowing there was meth in the package delivered on Jan. 18.

Deaton faces charges of sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, introduction of contraband to jail, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

At a court appearance on Sunday, a judge set Deaton’s bond at $10,500.

The sheriff’s office says Deaton, who was hired in 2022, has been fired.
