ORLANDO, Fla. – A world-renowned Olympic runner was booked in Central Florida on Thursday after she was caught driving over 100 mph, according to jail records obtained by News 6.

Those records show that the athlete — identified as 25-year-old Sha’Carri Richardson, — faces a charge of dangerous, excessive speeding in Orange County.

That specific crime stems from a new law passed in Florida last year, which makes it a criminal offense for drivers to speed at 100 mph or more in a way that threatens people or property.

A first conviction can land someone in jail for 30 days, along with a fine of up to $500.

On Thursday evening, deputies told News 6 that Richardson had been caught speeding at 104 mph along State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway.

At the time, she was seen “dangerously tailgating” and crossing lanes to pass other drivers, deputies added. Now, she’s held on a bond of $500.

Richardson obtained prominence after she took gold for the 100m at the 2023 World Championships and the Olympic relay in 2024.

However, the star athlete isn’t without her share of controversies, either.

In 2021, she was barred from running in the Olympic 100m race after she tested positive for a chemical found in cannabis. And just last year, she was arrested after being accused of domestic violence.
