Jerome Miller promoted from deputy-chief role

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – Orange City officially has a new police chief with Jerome Miller, who brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience to the role.

Miller had been serving as the city’s deputy police chief since December 2024 and was promoted on Saturday, a news release states.

The city describes Miller’s career as distinguished, having been in patrol operations, investigations, administration, and executive leadership, as well as command and supervisory roles with the Apopka Police Department — including deputy police chief — before his time in Volusia.

“Throughout his career, Chief Miller has demonstrated commitment to community-oriented policing, professional standards, and organizational excellence. He has experience managing large law enforcement teams, overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets, leading emergency response operations, and fostering collaborative relationships with community partners,” the news release states. “Chief Miller holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and criminology and a bachelor’s degree in public affairs and psychology. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed numerous advanced leadership and executive training programs.”

The city said it looks forward to Miller’s continued leadership.
