OVIEDO, Fla. – A gunman in Oviedo was taken into custody after he was spotted firing off several rounds in a local neighborhood, according to the police department.
In an arrest report, police said that they were called to Doctors Court on Wednesday evening after the shooting was first reported.
As it turned out, another call revealed that the same suspect had been at the home earlier in the day, trying to start a fight with some of the occupants, the report states.
However, by the time officers arrived at the scene, the gunman was already gone, police added.
One of the victims said he was just returning home on his bicycle when the gunman ran up and fired several rounds toward him, causing the victim to run inside. Police explained that the bullets penetrated the home and were later found in the living room.
At the time of the shooting, there were four minors in the home, along with their mother, per investigators.
Detectives said they soon learned that the gunman was 19-year-old Dayveon Perry, who lived at an apartment complex nearby and had already been involved in “prior law enforcement interactions.”
As such, police located Perry, who admitted to throwing his gun into the woods behind his apartment complex, the report shows.
“Dayveon made a premeditated conscious decision to return to (the home) and specifically confront (the victim) for not wanting to speak with him earlier in the day,” police wrote. “Dayveon intended to critically injure or kill Brandon by raising a semi-automatic gun capable of causing death, firing several 9mm rounds towards him while (the victim) frantically took cover inside his home.”
Now, Perry faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, criminal mischief, six counts of firing a weapon into a dwelling, and six counts of aggravated assault. He is held without bond.
