PALM BAY, Fla. – The city of Palm Bay is voting to approve a settlement agreement in a lawsuit filed by one of its own councilmen.
Last fall, Chandler Langevin sued Palm Bay when the council censured him over what he wrote on social media about immigrants from India.
His first post read, “There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States.”
In a special meeting on Friday, the council will decide if the city will pay the attorney fees and costs for Langevin.

According to the terms of the settlement, the city would pay $55,000 to Langevin’s attorney, Anthony Sabatini. Palm Bay would also have to pay the city’s own attorney fees, although that amount has not been announced.
If approved, neither party would admit wrongdoing and Langevin would release the city from all claims.
Within 10 days of receiving the payment, Langevin’s attorney would file a dismissal to permanently closing the federal case.
Sabatini has argued the council violated the First Amendment by censuring Langevin and attempting to limit his power.
Friday’s special meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall.
