Child struck by vehicle while riding e-scooter in Avalon Park, fire rescue says she is OK

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A young girl riding a scooter was struck by a vehicle Friday morning in the Avalon Park area, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened at the intersection of Avalon Park Boulevard and Golden Isle Boulevard, less than two miles from Timber Creek Middle School.

A photo taken by a witness shows first responders on scene, including firefighters standing near a stretcher at the intersection.

Witnesses in the area said the child had been riding her scooter when she was hit. Several people stopped to help and waited with the girl until emergency crews arrived.

“It’s pretty sad, honestly,” said one person who lives nearby. “She was a little kid, and you should be careful because maybe you have kids too.”

Others in the area said the crash highlights safety concerns as many children ride electric scooters and bikes through the neighborhood, especially during school hours.

While visiting the intersection Friday evening, multiple riders, many of them children, were seen passing through the area on scooters and electric bikes.

Some riders said they try to stay alert around traffic but still worry about drivers who may be in a hurry.

“Sometimes drivers are in a rush all the time and they don’t care,” said Tayyba Naseem, who rides her e-scooter in the area regularly. “Because it’s so fast, the cars going with the speed, so I get scared.”

Orange County Fire Rescue said the girl did not need to be transported to a hospital for medical care.

It is unclear whether the driver involved was cited or could face charges. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
