ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was fatally shot in Orlando’s tourist district, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the 11900 block of International Drive after a report of an aggravated battery.

Upon arrival, deputies found a woman in her 40s who had been shot. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died, deputies said.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the incident happened at a 7-11. The owner of that 7-11 franchise said the woman was shot before arriving at the convenience store.

“She sustained the gunshot wound before arriving at the store. Therefore, statements indicating that she died at the store are not accurate. Her death occurred sometime after the shooting, either before or after transport to the hospital. We can’t disclose much information at the moment, as the investigation is ongoing.”

Deputies did not release the woman’s name, details about a suspect, or what led up to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
