James Kleeman, 65, faces charges of stalking and installing a tracking device

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A part-time prisoner transport deputy was arrested after he was caught placing an AirTag in his ex’s vehicle, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, investigators said that the deputy — identified as James Kleeman, 65 — had apparently been with the victim for three years until they separated last month.

“She indicated she’d found AirTags in her vehicle and her adult daughter’s vehicle dating back to 2025,” the release reads.

After their breakup last month, the victim found another AirTag on her vehicle, as well as Ring video footage of Kleeman crawling underneath her daughter’s vehicle at their home, deputies added.

“She said Kleeman had been showing up at her location on multiple occasions since their break-up, including in his assigned Volusia Sheriff’s Office vehicle,” the release continues.

And while the victim was giving her statement to detectives in DeLand on Wednesday, Kleeman even showed up in the parking lot and stopped behind the victim’s vehicle, investigators noted.

Deputies said they found AirTags on both the victim’s vehicle and her daughter’s, and Kleeman admitted to placing the AirTags, though he denied following her.
