2 dead after car crashes into South Apopka home, catches fire

House also caught fire, but two people inside were not hurt, FHP said.

SOUTH APOPKA, Fla – Two people were killed after a speeding car hit a utility pole and crashed into a South Apopka home, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the 2008 Honda Civic was traveling south on South Hawthorne Avenue when the driver, who was going above the posted speed limit, lost control.

Troopers said the car ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, causing the car to flip over and strike the home.

FHP reports the impact caused both the car and home to catch fire.

The driver and a passenger in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the report, the two people inside were not injured.

The homeowners told WKMG they are “in shock” and said it “felt like an earthquake.”

A roadblock currently remains in the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol remains on the scene as the investigation continues.
