BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A Mims man was taken into custody after deputies said he threw hot grease at a woman and took of with her car, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
In an affidavit, deputies said they responded to an apartment complex along Grove Street on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a call for help.
Upon arrival, they met up with the woman, who’d suffered road rash on her shoulder blades and lower back.
According to the victim, she’d been arguing in an apartment with 23-year-old Jontrai Stephens, which escalated when he tore her wig off and smashed her TV.
“After that, he picked up a pan consisting of steak and potatoes that was cooking on the stove and threw it at her,” the affidavit reads.

Stephens then reportedly grabbed the woman’s car keys and left, getting into her vehicle, deputies said.
“(She) then jumps on the trunk of her vehicle in further attempt to prevent him from stealing her vehicle,” the affidavit continues. “(Stephens) then rapidly accelerated out of the parking lot of the apartment complex with (the woman) hanging onto the back of the vehicle.”
Per the victim, Stephens began speeding up and stopping quickly, seemingly in an attempt to throw her from the back of the car. He ultimately succeeded, with the victim sliding along the pavement and suffering major injuries, deputies added.
“(Stephens’) actions did cause great bodily harm and possible permanent disfigurement to the victim,” investigators wrote.
According to the BCSO, Stephens was later arrested and now faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle. He is held without bond.
