Neighbors on edge after homeowner spray-paints messages on Orlando-area house, Orange County investigates

Homeowner spray-paints disturbing messages on house; residents say they’re scared and want help

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Horizon West neighborhood in Orlando is on edge Friday night.

Neighbors tell News 6 they’re too afraid to show their faces on camera as a dispute between a homeowner and the HOA escalates, after the homeowner apparently spray-painted disturbing messages on the home, including “Combat Veteran with PTSD.” Tonight, 48 hours later, homeowners who say they’re still scared tell News 6 nothing has changed and they need help.

Several neighbors told News 6 they don’t want to go on camera because they’re terrified. They believe this woman is a threat to herself and possibly to others as well.

This is video of Orange County Sheriff’s deputies this afternoon at a home on Emerald Berry Drive in Horizon West. News 6 is working to learn why deputies were there—again.

When News 6 first reported on Wednesday, OCSO said it would send its behavioral response unit there to offer mental health support. News 6 confirmed a representative from the neighborhood HOA sent a complaint to Orange County Code Enforcement on Wednesday about the home. That representative also says the HOA received reports of the resident screaming and yelling outdoors in the middle of the night about a number of issues. The HOA is asking Orange County to investigate and help if it can.

Orange County told News 6 that, according to county code, no one may intentionally deface the exterior of any building with graffiti or markings, and the property owner must restore it to an approved condition. Right now, the county says it’s waiting to schedule an inspection with OCSO.

OCSO told News 6 the situation between the HOA and the homeowner is a civil matter, not a criminal one. Using spray paint on your own house is not a crime—it’s between the HOA and its residents. News 6 plans to stay on top of this until the people who live there are satisfied, feel safe again, and the homeowner gets the help she needs.
