Former Congressman Bill Posey dead at 78

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Former U.S. Congressman Bill Posey has died, according to a Facebook post by his predecessor U.S. Congressman Mike Haridopolos.

The Brevard County Republican represented Florida’s 8th Congressional District.

Posey died on Saturday surrounded by family.

Posey worked at Kennedy Space Center and was also in real estate. He got involved with the city of Rockledge in the 1970s, and parlayed that into a career in politics, including stints as state representative and state senator for Brevard County in the 90s and early 2000s.

He won his first election to Congress in 2008, where he was a stalwart conservative.
