Teen arrested after shooting at Edgewater intersection, police announce

Riley Kotnik, 17, faces charge of aggravated battery with intent to kill

EDGEWATER, Fla. – A juvenile was shot in the leg on Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of two suspects, according to the Edgewater Police Department.

In a release, police said that they responded to the incident just after 9 p.m. near 26th Street and India Palm Drive.

Upon arrival, they found the juvenile victim, who reported being confronted near the intersection by two others: Riley Kotnik, 17, and Tyler Finan, 18, the release shows.

Investigators reported that Kotnik and Finan fled the scene in a vehicle, but they were located within minutes at Finan’s home.

“Officers secured both individuals in the backyard of the residence,” the release reads. “EPD detectives responded to the scene, conducted interviews, and obtained search warrants for both the residence and the vehicle involved in the incident.”

During their search of the home, detectives said they uncovered a firearm in Finan’s room that they believe was involved in the shooting.

Now, Kotnik faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, as well as possession of a firearm by a minor.

Meanwhile, Finan faces a charge of accessory to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Police added that the victim was taken to the hospital and is recovering.
